The Goat Next Door
80 x 100 cm
Acrylic Paint on Canvas
There were two neighbors in a village. One had a fat, healthy goat that was producing a lot of milk.
The other one did not.
Every day he grew more and more envious of his neighbor, and the goat.
One day, God appeared to the man and said:
“my child - I see you are hurting - I have come to give you anything you desire.
Let me know what you want and you can have it.”
The man thinks for a moment and replies “ I want the neighbor’s goat to die.”
This well-known Greek joke is so resonant with our community because we can see how many people think this way about competition. Success of one business, or person, should be seen as a motivator for growth,
a driver for creativity and evolution.
Instead, we feel envy, and the desire to squander anything that seems like it may be doing better than we are.
